Japanese Gardens

New documentations from Japanese gardens added under “reference sounds”. The sound recordings were made in conjunction with a one-year study on restorative soundscapes in Japan (the study covered, in addition to gardens, forest bathing, “shinrin-yoku”). The Japanese garden tradition is filled with examples of how strategies to abate noise can be combined (most typically, screening and masking). Many gardens are surrounded by dense modern cities, but may still be perceived as tranquil. In addition to noise abatement, the documentations also cover design effects like nightingale floors, suikinkutsu and deer scarer.
